We then headed back down the hill to the house and unpacked our bags, made our beds and were subjected to a room inspection! (with mixed results!!).
For dinner, all of the children at a full meal - with the naan breads going down a storm. After our evening activities we are all now (hopefully) settling down for a good nights sleep - ready for our activities tomorrow!
Day Two – DONE!
All the children were involved in coasteering this morning, and everyone got involved in jumping into the waves and bobbing around! We then splashed about in a small cove and explored a sea cave. We (and the instructors) were really impressed with the speed at which they were ready and getting through the activity — which meant more time doing the jumps.
After a lunch of paninis, the children then split into their separate groups — with Mr Curnow's group tackling the seas again in kayaks, and Mr Snow's group going indoor climbing. Again, the children did us proud with their determination to improve at the task they had in front of them.
We then had a delicious dinner of lasagne with garlic bread and Biscoff cheesecake!
To finish the day, we went on a night walk to Brixham Harbour, and some children had an additional activity of stargazing, with Mr Curnow pointing out the different constellations on view.
Another great day over at Grenville. After another super breakfast the children were energised for the early start as Mr Snow's group was off caving at 8:30am. They were great within the cave system - exploring some of the smallest gaps in there and enjoying some of the slippery, slidey parts!
Meanwhile, Mr Curnow's group were busy in the indoor climbing hall which was then great preparation for the abseiling activity in the afternoon. The children did brilliantly - with all the children getting strapped in and standing on the edge (in itself a great achievement).
We were then treated to cheese and pepperoni pizzas followed by chocolate brownie and custard! Then we did our night activities of: football, crafts, games, dancing and table tennis before getting settled ready for another full day tomorrow.
Our final full day has finished and what a great day we have had again. Mr Curnow's group was off early for their go at caving - with all the children doing brilliantly crawling through the tight spaces and going up and down slippery slopes. Mr Snow's group were busy at this time going up and down the high ropes. All the children pushed themselves to - and often through - their limits.
We had a lunch of hotdogs and hash browns outside in the picnic area in the beautiful sunshine of Brixham.
In the afternoon, Mr Snow's group continued the heights theme and took on the challenge of abseiling down the quarry site from Berry Head. Yet again, the children dug deep and attempted the descent and showed great courage, resilience and teamwork to get onto the platform and locked into ropes at the top.
Mr Curnow's group were on the quad solving problems together - again showing teamwork and communication to get them done.
We then finished the day with a massive roast dinner with eton mess for desert - followed by a quiz to review the week before settling down for bed.
See you all tomorrow!
What an awesome time we have had at Grenville this week! The children have been amazing representatives of the school - showing ALL of our school values and learning powers throughout all activities. They have ALL pushed themselves - showing great COURAGE when the going got tough; they reached their HONEST limit (literally Aiming for the Highest) and then went beyond - maybe showing a bit of FORGIVENESS towards myself for pushing them to - and probably beyond - their limit! TEAMWORK was on show in abundance with them encouraging each other, helping their friends and organising each other to keep their rooms tidy (YES! I know! They CAN do it!) It was also lovely to see the KINDNESS and friendship towards their group as well as the children from Hemyock as well as being RESPECTFUL when listening to adults - including the instructors. I am not sure that we have ever had a better group of children when it came to sleeping and eating well so that they were ready to go the next day and do their best.
The final morning of activities were kayaking for Mr Snow's group and high ropes for Mr Curnow's group - looked and after and encouraged by Miss Price who can down for the final day.
Many thanks to all the children and adults involved in the trip: the staff and children from Hemyock for being great company; the staff at Grenville House who continue to impress with their knowledge, encouragement and compassion they show our children each year; to the adults at home who prepared their children so well - many of the children quoting their adults saying that they told them to do it!; and to Mr Curnow for continuing to be such a fantastic member of staff to have on residential!
